Alumni Spotlight: Debbie Peters — Class of 1975
My name is Debbie (Sanders) Peters, ad I’m a proud 1975 graduate of Mulberry High School. During my time at Mulberry, I was honored to serve as Senior Annual Queen, Senior Class Reporter, Class Treasurer, and a Class Officer for three years. I was a member of FHA, FFA, FBLA, Choir, and the Paper Staff, and I was blessed to make the Honor Roll. One of my favorite memories from high school was being chosen as the FFA Sweetheart.
In March of 1976, I married my husband, Dwight Peters, and we’ve built a wonderful life together. We have two daughters, Cheryl Peters and Michelle Knapp, both proud graduates of Pleasant View School, and one precious granddaughter, Clara Knapp.
I started working at a young age. When I was 12, I had my first job at the Dairy Dip, and at 13, I went to work part-time at Bowlin Drug Store. After graduation, I worked there full-time until the store closed. In 1982, I began my career at Bank of Mulberry, now Today’s Bank. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to serve as Senior Vice President, Bank Secrecy Officer, and Branch Manager of the Mulberry Office. In 2024, I transitioned to part-time as a Business Development Consultant, which allows me to continue serving my community while enjoying more time with family.
I’ve always felt fortunate to live and work in my hometown. My job has given me the opportunity to help others and stay involved in the community I love. It also allowed me to be present for my girls; whether it was a school party, basketball game, or fundraiser, I was there.
Community service has always been close to my heart. I currently serve as President of the MPV Education Foundation and also serve as Vice President of Friends of Mulberry, and President of the Pleasant View Community Club. I have also served as President of the School Board, President of the Booster Club, and as President of the PTA for Pleasant View School. Each year, with the help of Today’s Bank, I organize our participation at the Crawford County Fair and coordinate several other community events, including hosting a cookout for our Fire and Police Departments at Bluff Hole, providing food for Teacher Appreciation Day and the City of Mulberry Christmas Party, and supporting various school and community activities throughout the year. Additionally, I have the privilege of serving as a Sunday School teacher, which brings me great joy.
In 2024, I was honored to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award from the City of Mulberry, a recognition that means so much because it reflects my love for this wonderful community.
Mulberry will always be home to me. I am proud to have lived, worked, and raised my family here, surrounded by good people who care for one another.
